We went to Hillsborough to pick up Audrey to come to Grandma’s and Grandpa’s for vacation. I believe she is growing up! In fact she has grown 4 inches in the past year! We stayed for dinner so we could see Katie, Nick and Henry and then headed for Lynchburg!
Sunday
It’s the Fourth of July and we went to SML to celebrate with Jenny! We spent the afternoon swimming from the dock, then everyone got on their celebration gear after dinner!
Jenny’s neighbor told her we did not have to go down near the dam in the boat to see fireworks, we could just motor over to the next cove. A gentleman puts on a wonderful display every Fourth! He even has his own barge rigged to set off the show! It was a super display. I’m sure we’ll make it an annual event!
Monday
It was a fun lake day; going for a ride in the boat, swimming in a cove, playing Clue, swimming off the dock at Jenny’s!
Tuesday
Kelley and Maggie arrived at the SML and we all had a fun day in and on the water.
The girls swam and floated,
went on a SeaDoo ride with Grandpa to Morgan’s cove,
and were very excited when the ice cream boat appeared!
It was not long after dinner, that bedtime called and they were out for the night! A very busy day I’d say!
Wednesday
We all went for a boat ride with Captain Bender and ate lunch at Bender’s cove. Then we had to pack up and head to Lynchburg. Thank you Jenny for hosting us this July 4th holiday. We had a great time and appreciate your hospitality!
Thursday
Natural Bridge State Park was our destination today. The bridge is quite a sight to see. Imagine, the rock under the bridge was washed away by water! Kelley, Maggie and Audrey were impressed by how high the bridge is when you stand under it!
On our hike to the waterfall, we stopped at a cave where saltpeter (bat and bird poop) was mined to make gun powder.
We made it to the waterfall! BUT….on the hike back, it began to rain…then it poured and we all got soaking wet. It was quite an ADVENTURE!
Audrey, we loved having you on vacation and hope you had a great time. Kelley and Maggie, we are so glad you could come to Virginia and join in the fun. Jenny, thanks again for hosting us at the lake. Glad we could spend the July 4th holiday with all of you!
