Making Life Easier

Fall, 2021

It all began when the sail club said they did not want motor boats on the property any more.  So, we decided to sell our Key West.  We contacted the dealer we bought it from 5 years ago.  The owner said they would buy it.  When we took it to the dealer, he had no Key West Boats in stock. The pandemic had stopped production.  He offered us what we paid for it! DEAL!!

A few weeks later, we thought , our car sits in the drive way because we take the truck camping, biking, sailing, etc.  So, we decided to sell the Camry and could not believe the price the dealer offered us! Again the pandemic halted the delivery of new vehicles. DEAL!

Spring 2022

We have not sailed our boat in two years! Sailing no longer is good for our bodies and we do not do any activity that will harm our bodies and keep us from biking!  So we sold our sailboat  to a Catalina dealer in NC.  Not quite the type of price we got for the motor boat or car, but not many folks are taking up sailing these days!

Note: this will be our last year as members of the Virginia Inland Sailing Association!  We have decades of great memories of our experiences at VISA but it is time to put sailing behind us!

Maggie’s Spring Break

Monday, April 18th

It’s Maggie’s spring break and we are headed to South Carolina to spend some time with her as we do every year!  We got the camper set up at Huntington State Park in time to head to the Hills for happy hour and dinner.

Minutes into happy hour, Gretchen stood up and said she had a pain in her side.  Five minutes later, Gretchen was in severe pain ( I’ve never seen anyone in pain like hers!) and could barely breathe so we headed to the ER!  The staff did a great job stabilizing Gretchen and indicated she needed to be transferred over night to a trauma center.  The doctor got her in to McLeod Medical Center in Florence and she was transferred by ambulance arriving at 6am. By the time I arrived in Florence about 9:30am, Gretchen had already been operated on to repair a hole in her intestine and was in recovery! So we are greatful both hospitals quickly diagnosed and treated Gretchen promptly!

A few days after surgery!

Friday

Maggie, Kelley and I moved the camper to the KOA. We stayed in the Myrtle Beach area so Grandma could see Maggie when she got out of the hospital!

Wednesday 27th

Gretchen got out of the hospital and she is on the road to recovery!

Relaxing at the KOA campground.

Mother’s Day

Maggie and Kelley came to Ocean Lakes (Our 3rd Campground) and we played miniature golf, and had dinner with them to celebrate the holiday! I’m positive spending time with you guys set Grandma on the fast track to recovery from her surgery.  I’m so glad we kept the camper in the area so she could spend time with you two!

Well Maggie it was not the spring break we anticipated was it?  Anyway, it was great seeing you and hearing all of the great things you are doing in school and dance!  Kelley, thanks for all of your help providing meals, moving the camper, doing wash, etc. I appreciate your help during the busy weeks you have! And just think, school will be out in a few weeks and you can relax for a few months!
